We have many characterful towns and villages nearby. Shaftesbury, with its famous Gold Hill, is close, and Sherborne, a little further away, is packed with tempting independent shops, restaurants and cafes.
Monday is market day at our local town, Sturminster Newton – worth a browse – and there’s a Saturday market at nearby Blandford. Dorset’s county town, Dorchester, was founded by the Romans and has an excellent museum.
Culture, museums or extreme sports: you’re less than an hour from great visitor attractions.
The writer and poet Thomas Hardy lived at nearby Sturminster Newton for a while. The beginning of his novel ‘Tess of the D’Urbervilles’ is set in this area and ‘Far From the Madding Crowd’ was recently filmed in Sherborne.
